Zdefraudowanie 3,5 miliarda dolarów z funduszu 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MBD) to jedno z największych międzynarodowych przestępstw finansowych ostatnich lat. Zaangażowany był w nie były premier Malezji Najib Razak i amerykański bank Goldman Sachs. Pieniądze z tego wielkiego przekrętu przeznaczono między innymi na zakup drogich nieruchomości w Nowym Jorku, Kalifornii i Londynie, prywatnego odrzutowca oraz obrazów van Gogha i Moneta. Popłynęły również do Hollywood, gdzie dotowano z nich sławne gwiazdy oraz produkcję filmu „Wilk z Wall Street” z Leonardem DiCaprio. Wśród osób, które otrzymały specjalne podziękowania w napisach końcowych filmu Martina Scorsese, jest Jho Low, filantrop z Malezji, który oficjalnie żył bardzo skromnie, a de facto był prawdziwym wcieleniem głównego bohatera tego filmu. Gigantyczna afera finansowa z jego udziałem okazała się najszerzej zakrojoną akcją korupcyjną na najwyższym szczeblu. Miała wpływ na sytuację polityczną i społeczną w Malezji.
